Summary

This session will discuss how to develop a digital strategy that supports strategic initiatives, addresses operational issues caused by ineffective software/systems, and gets the support of the board of directors for digital infrastructure investments. The approach to Digital Strategy will be illustrated using a case study from the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU). This session discusses how SVU developed a comprehensive digital strategy - including a digital infrastructure investment plan- that supported its strategic, technology, and operational goals. 

Presenters

  Duane Capuano

Duane Capuano is a Senior Consultant with Tecker International, Duane’s expertise is in digital strategy, strategic planning, software selection and implementation. Prior to consulting, Duane held business development positions at USA TODAY, Gannett and AOL, where he led the development of digital business strategies, products and partnerships. Duane holds an MBA in Strategic Planning and Organization Development from Emory University and BS in Information Systems from St. Joseph’s University.

James Wilkinson
MA, CAE

James Wilkinson, MA, CAE is a seasoned non-profit servant leader with nearly two decades of experience leading professional societies. From 2015-2020, he served as Executive Director of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound, where he grew membership to record levels, stood up its affiliated foundation, and transitioned the organization into the research activities. Prior to that, he served as Vice President for Strategy and Growth at the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC), and as Executive Director at Washington International Trade Association (WITA), where membership and sponsorships doubled during his decade-long tenure. He is a holder of the prestigious Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). He holds a Masters in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University, and degrees in Education from Frostburg State University and English Literature from the University of Maryland. Currently he serves on the Boards of several local civic and charitable non-profits. He lives with his family in suburban Maryland, just outside the nation’s capital. He has hiked a section of all 11 National Scenic Trails, including nearly 700 miles of his favorite, the venerable Appalachian Trail.
