What You Will Learn

  • Understand the nature of negotiation. Interests, goals, and cooperation are ambiguous and often do not have “right” answers. Follow a repeatable process to analyze negotiating situations.
  • Gain a broad intellectual understanding of the central concepts in negotiation. These concepts are the building blocks that can be systematically applied to evaluate any negotiation.
  • Improve the ability to analyze the behavior and motives of negotiators in settings that have both competitive and cooperative elements.
  • Develop high-level experience in the negotiation process, including learning to evaluate the costs and benefits of alternative actions and how to manage the negotiating conversation.


    Summary

    This session provides an interactive experience designed to introduce participants to the process professional buyers rely on for successful negotiation. Common and not-so-common-sense solutions are presented with practical applications. The content is applicable to a broad spectrum of negotiation problems and is relevant to procurement, engineering, marketing professionals. 

    Participants can practice their negotiation skills through simulations and role-playing.

    Presenter

      Penny Rosema

    Penny Rosema consults and speaks on negotiation. She is the former Managing Director of the Cookware Manufacturers Association. She earned her MBA from Notre Dame and holds a B.S. in Engineering from Michigan State University. She combines business and technical savvy with experience to show others how to negotiate like an expert. As an educator and leader, Penny worked with corporate teams in the US, Japan and Korean. She has also served as an adjunct professor of supply chain and negotiation at Grand Valley State University. Her programs challenge assumptions and shows listeners how to negotiate like a professional. When you follow a process you can negotiate from a position of strength, get more of what you want AND build productive, long-term relationships. Penny is a member of National Speakers Association and Past President the NSA Michigan Chapter
